Estadio Akron Stadium Guide
Seating, premium access, and matchday logistics — everything your group needs for Guadalajara’s iconic volcano-inspired stadium and FIFA World Cup 2026 host venue.
At a Glance
The essentials, before you book a single thing.
The Experience
One of the most architecturally distinctive stadiums in the world — a volcanic hill of 70,000 m² of grass surrounds a steep red seating bowl with a white ring-shaped roof floating above it, supported by just 16 pillars. Designed by VFO architects, it feels unlike any other stadium on the continent.
The Stadium
- Volcano-inspired design — the exterior is a grass-covered hill with a steep red bowl inside, described architecturally as a crater
- Circular canopy ring roof covers the stands while leaving the field open to the sky — an open-air venue with weather coverage for seated areas
- Soccer-specific design gives superior sightlines from every tier — even upper corner seats are closer than equivalents in multi-purpose stadiums
- 133 executive suites (palcos) with dedicated subterranean parking and panoramic views
- Wide concourses ring the stadium, allowing full circulation without losing sight of the field
- Steep seating rake traps crowd noise in the bowl — known for exceptional match atmosphere during Chivas home games
Arrive Ready
- 90 minutes early — traffic around the stadium on Circuito JVC can be significant; arrive early or use rideshare drop-off zones
- Guadalajara International (GDL) is approximately 30 minutes under normal conditions
- No direct metro or rail service — rideshare (Uber, DiDi), taxi, or private transport are the primary options
- Park & Ride shuttles from designated city points may operate during major events — check the venue’s advisory before driving
- No bags or backpacks are permitted under the stadium’s Estadio Seguro policy — plan accordingly before you leave the hotel
- Guadalajara’s heat is a real factor in summer — light clothing and hydration are important for outdoor queuing
Events & Schedule

Historic Moments
Mexico vs. ? — June 2026
Mexico’s second group-stage match at the 2026 World Cup is assigned to Estadio Akron. This will be among the most emotionally charged fixtures of the tournament — the Guadalajara crowd and the national team on home soil is a combination that sells out immediately. Request early.
The City
Mexico’s second city — mariachi-proud, food-obsessed, and genuinely welcoming to international visitors. Guadalajara offers one of the richest cultural experiences of any World Cup 2026 host city. Build time around the match for the city itself.

Soccer-specific design means strong sightlines from every tier. The steep rake keeps even the upper corners closer to the action than equivalent seats in most multi-purpose stadiums.

Carretera a Tepic 5471, El Bajío, Zapopan, Jalisco
Confirm official traffic routing and designated pickup points on event day — Circuito JVC access can be adjusted by event operations. For World Cup 2026, follow FIFA signage and staff directions on all approach roads.
Hotels & Neighborhoods
Estadio Akron is in Zapopan on Guadalajara’s western edge — four neighbourhood zones to choose from, ranging from venue-adjacent to the city’s historic and cultural core.
Zapopan / Andares
Immediately near the stadium with the Andares shopping and dining district a short drive away. The most convenient zone for groups prioritising proximity to the venue. Modern hotels with easy access to Circuito JVC.
Providencia / Chapalita
Guadalajara’s most polished residential and hotel corridor — upscale restaurants, cocktail bars, and the city’s best boutique hotel options. ~15–20 min from the stadium. Our primary placement zone for most World Cup groups.
Zona Rosa / Colonia Americana
Guadalajara’s most vibrant neighbourhood — packed with restaurants, bars, and the city’s creative scene. ~20 min from the stadium. Best for groups who want an authentic Guadalajara evening around the match.
Historic Centre
Guadalajara’s colonial heart — the Cathedral, Hospicio Cabañas (UNESCO), mariachi birthplace in Plaza de los Mariachis, and the best traditional food options in the city. ~30 min from the stadium but worth it for a full Guadalajara experience.

World Cup 2026 hotel demand in Guadalajara will be exceptional — book as early as possible. We place your group in the strongest available option at time of booking.
Andares — Zapopan’s upscale shopping and dining district — is minutes from the stadium and has some of the best restaurant options closest to the venue. Tlaquepaque (20 min south) is one of Mexico’s most charming artisan towns — a worthwhile half-day addition for any Guadalajara trip. Tequila is just over an hour west — the birthplace of Mexico’s national spirit and a genuinely excellent day trip for groups with time around their fixture.
Common Questions
First-time visitor answers, plainly stated.
No — the stadium’s Estadio Seguro policy prohibits bags and backpacks. Liquid containers over 100 ml are also prohibited. Medications must be accompanied by a prescription at entry. Plan your pockets before leaving your hotel. For World Cup 2026, FIFA may issue a tournament-wide policy — defer to the most current guidance when available.
Rideshare (Uber or DiDi) is the most practical option for most guests — book your return trip before going into the stadium to avoid post-match surge. There is no direct metro or rail service to Estadio Akron. For World Cup 2026, official shuttle services from key hotel zones and transit hubs are expected — check the venue’s event-week advisory for confirmed routes.
FIFA’s standard policy requires corporate-sponsored stadium names to be temporarily removed during the tournament. Estadio Akron becomes “Estadio Guadalajara” for the duration of World Cup 2026 — the same reason AT&T Stadium becomes “AT&T Stadium” in the US and other venues drop their commercial names. The venue itself is unchanged.
Lower bowl sideline (sections 105–106, 122–123) is the strongest position — best proximity and atmosphere. Upper bowl midfield (305–306, 322–323) is the best value tier for tactical viewing. The soccer-specific design means even upper corner seats are closer than equivalents at multi-purpose stadiums. Avoid the very back rows of upper corners near roof supports where partial obstructions can occur.
Yes — Guadalajara is one of the most rewarding host cities on the 2026 itinerary. Mariachi culture, exceptional food (tortas ahogadas, birria, and pozole are all Guadalajara specialities), Tlaquepaque artisan quarter, the tequila trail an hour west, and a genuinely warm host city make it worth extending your trip by at least a day or two around the fixture. We can build the full itinerary around your match date.
