Turn 1 โ€” The Hill
High Demand Lap 1 Action Heavy Braking Amphitheatre Layout

The most dramatic grandstand corner in North American racing. Cars rocket up a steep, massive crest and attack a heavy braking zone while climbing 133 feet into a wide, blind hairpin apex. This combination makes it the premier spot for opening-lap drama, daring divebombs, and lock-ups. The steep incline creates an incredible natural stadium perspective where you can see down the main straight. Book early โ€” this is typically among the first grandstand sections to sell out.

Turn 4 โ€” Esses Entry
Technical Section Aero Balance Visible Purist Pick

Entry to COTA’s celebrated high-speed esses complex โ€” six linked corners inspired by Maggotts-Becketts at Silverstone. From Turn 4 you watch cars set up for this sequence, making the aero balance and mechanical balance of each car plainly visible as they transition direction at high speed. Less overtaking drama than Turn 1, but far more technically revealing. Popular with fans who know what they’re looking at.

The overlooked gem on the COTA seating map. Turn 6 sits at the top of the esses complex with an elevated, panoramic sightline across the entire sequence โ€” from T3 through T9 โ€” rather than just one corner of it. While T4 shows the entry and T9 shows the exit, Turn 6 shows the whole thing: you can watch cars working through all six linked corners simultaneously. Technical fans consistently rate this as one of the best overall viewing positions on the circuit.

The exit of the esses complex โ€” where the accumulated gains or errors from the previous five corners get resolved into a straight-line result. A car that’s threaded the esses perfectly exits T9 on rails; one that’s struggled arrives sideways. You see the consequence of the whole sequence played out in front of you, plus a clear run toward the back section. One of the better value positions on the circuit for race day.

Turn 12 โ€” Back Straight Braking Zone
Primary Overtaking Zone Heavy Braking DRS Pass Completion Stadium Infield View

The apex of COTA overtaking action. Positioned directly at the end of the massive 1-kilometer back straight, cars arrive at top speeds of over 200 mph before slamming on the brakes into a sharp, low-speed left-hand corner. This is where DRS-assisted passes are completed, defensive cover lines are drawn, and major errors unfold under late braking pressure. The grandstand layout also gives you an expansive sweeping panoramic view of the technical infield complex from Turn 13 through Turn 16.

A fan favorite inside COTA’s massive stadium section. From Turn 15, you sit directly across the highly technical, low-speed complex that filters out of the long straight. Because cars slow down significantly to navigate the linked curves, you get sustained, close-up views of the drivers working the wheels through Turns 12, 13, 14, and 15. An exceptionally comfortable zone with great fan engagement and continuous on-track action.

A highly technical, fast, and penalizing off-camber left-hand sweep right before the entry to the pit lane. Turn 19 forces cars to battle sliding understeer while transitioning at speed. This is a critical viewing zone for late-session track limits infractions and surprise spins as drivers push boundaries trying to launch onto the front straight. It provides an excellent, fast-paced perspective of pure mechanical capability right at the close of the lap.

Access GA
General Admission โ€” The Hills
Freedom to Move Best Value Multiple Zones
The Hill โ€” Behind Turn 1

The largest GA zone and the most popular. The natural hillside behind the Turn 1 grandstand gives you an elevated, unreserved view of the approach and braking zone โ€” the same drama as the Turn 1 grandstand but standing, free to move, and significantly cheaper. Gets crowded early on race day; arrive by 10 AM for a good position on the slope.

The Esses GA Zone โ€” Around Turn 11

The GA zone in the infield near the back section of the circuit. Less crowded than The Hill, with views across the back esses. Good for fans who want more space and a different circuit perspective. Some movement is possible between GA zones during the event โ€” check COTA’s current GA policy before arrival as access rules vary year to year.

Main GA Zone โ€” Start/Finish Area

Standing access in the main infield and general concourse area near the start/finish straight. Gives flexibility to move between viewing points throughout the weekend. GA tickets are the entry-level product โ€” full access to the circuit perimeter, concerts, and fan zones without a reserved seat. Best suited to attendees who want the full festival atmosphere over a fixed race view.

GA tickets are available as part of full weekend packages through Xenia. Contact us โ†’

Parking & Logistics

Getting In & Out

USGP traffic is substantial. Choose your parking, shuttle, or rideshare plan before race weekend and follow COTA’s lot-specific routing on event days.

โฑ  Arrive Early
Build in significant extra time, especially on Sunday. COTA notes that its longest shuttle transit periods typically occur on race-day morning.
๐Ÿš—  Match Your Lot
All vehicles parking on-site need a pre-purchased parking pass. COTA publishes different approach routes depending on the assigned lot.
๐ŸšŒ  Shuttle Option
Official 2026 off-site shuttles run from Waterloo Park downtown and the Travis County Expo Center. Buy ahead; limited standby sales are not guaranteed.

Transportation

Getting Here

COTA sits 15 miles southeast of downtown Austin. Plan your inbound route before the weekend โ€” traffic management is aggressive on race days.

โœˆ๏ธ
From AUS Airport
Austin-Bergstrom International is approximately 10 miles from COTA. Rideshare, rental car, and shuttle options operate directly from the terminal. Rideshare surge pricing applies on race day โ€” pre-arrange if possible.
~20 min without traffic
๐Ÿ™
From Downtown Austin
Driving routes depend on your assigned parking lot. COTA currently directs different lot groups via TX-130, Elroy Road, COTA Boulevard, and FM-812. Follow the route for your specific parking pass rather than relying on a generic GPS approach.
25โ€“40 min depending on day
๐Ÿš•
Rideshare
COTA routes rideshare services through the McAngus drop-off and pickup area. Rideshare vehicles are restricted from COTA Boulevard during race weekend, so follow event signage and expect heavy post-race demand.

Accommodation

Austin & Surroundings

Austin hotel inventory moves fast for USGP weekend. Book early for the strongest selection. Xenia manages accommodation as part of full-weekend packages.

Downtown Austin
~15 miles ยท 25โ€“40 min
The most popular base for international visitors โ€” walkable to 6th Street, Rainey Street, and the waterfront. Downtown hotels command a strong premium during race week. The official downtown COTA shuttle currently departs from Waterloo Park. Race-week pricing is typically well above normal Austin weekends, so book early.
South Austin / Slaughter Lane
~10 miles ยท 20โ€“30 min
South Congress and the Slaughter Lane corridor offer better availability and more reasonable pricing than downtown. This can be a good choice if circuit proximity matters more than downtown nightlife, but plan your race-day transportation separately.
Circuit-Adjacent Hotels
Within 5 miles
A small number of hotel and extended-stay properties sit within a few miles of COTA along SH-130 and US-183 SE. Availability is limited during race week. These can be extremely convenient for circuit access, with fewer dining and entertainment options than central Austin.
North Austin / Domain Area
~20 miles ยท 35โ€“50 min
The Domain and North Austin corridors see lighter race-week price increases with good hotel stock. A longer drive to the circuit, but significantly easier exits post-race heading north on IH-35. Good fallback if downtown is fully committed.
FAQ

Common Questions

When is the 2026 United States Grand Prix?

The Formula 1 race weekend runs Friday, October 23 through Sunday, October 25, 2026 at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, with the Grand Prix starting at 3:00 PM CT on Sunday. COTA also opens Thursday, October 22 for Grand PrixView, making 2026 a four-day event. This is a traditional Grand Prix weekend โ€” there is no sprint race at COTA this year.

What can I bring into the circuit?

For major races, bags must be no larger than 12โ€ณx12โ€ณx20โ€ณ and are subject to security screening. COTA currently permits an empty Camelbak, one empty water bottle up to 32 oz, a small hand-held umbrella, portable collapsible chairs, binoculars, and personal camera equipment. Concert upgrade areas can have stricter bag rules, so check COTA’s current venue policy before race week.

Can I bring a camera to the circuit?

For Formula 1, COTA currently permits personal cameras and detachable lenses. Tripods, bipods, monopods, and detachable telephoto lenses are not permitted inside the gates. Policies can change, so check the current COTA venue rules before arrival.

Can I move between grandstands during the race?

General admission tickets provide access to eligible GA viewing areas, while reserved grandstand tickets are assigned to a specific stand and section. A reserved ticket does not grant access to other reserved grandstands. Concert access and upgraded viewing areas depend on the ticket product, so check the current event map and ticket terms for race week.

What’s the weather like in Austin for the Grand Prix?

Late October in Austin can still be warm during the day, with cooler evenings and fast-changing conditions. Sun, wind, and rain are all possible across a long race weekend. Check the forecast immediately before travel, use sun protection, and bring a compact rain layer for changing weather.

What’s included in a Xenia race package?

Xenia packages are custom-built per client and typically include race tickets (grandstand or hospitality), hotel accommodation for the full event period, ground transportation coordination, circuit planning briefings, and on-the-ground support during the event. We also assist with dining reservations, flight planning, and pre- or post-event Austin extensions. Contact us to build a package.

When should I book?

The USGP is one of Formula 1’s largest-attended weekends, with recent weekend attendance topping 400,000. Premium grandstands, hospitality, and well-located Austin hotels can tighten months in advance. If you are planning a group or want a specific section, earlier is usually better for selection and coordination.
